Cobalt Base Hardfacing Wires – ERCoCr-A / ERCoCr-B / ERCoCr-C / ERCoCr-E (CoCrMo Type)
Overview

Our cobalt base hardfacing wires are produced in Hebei, China, to AWS A5.21 / ASME SFA-5.21 specifications. These wires are designed for overlaying surfaces that must resist a combination of abrasive wear, metal-to-metal galling, corrosion, and elevated temperatures. The product range includes the four most commonly specified cobalt-chromium alloy types:
ERCoCr-A – Balanced wear and impact resistance, widely used on valve seats and pump components.
ERCoCr-B – Higher carbide content than ERCoCr-A, suitable for moderate abrasion with some impact.
ERCoCr-C – High carbon/tungsten version for severe abrasive and erosive conditions.
ERCoCr-E (CoCrMo Type / Cobalt Alloy 21 Equivalent) – Low carbon with molybdenum; strong resistance to cavitation, corrosion, and galling, with relatively low crack sensitivity. Often selected for petrochemical valve trim, steam turbine components, and die buildup.
All grades are available as continuous MIG/GMAW wires (cored or solid form as applicable) and as straight-length TIG rods (GTAW) upon request.
Key Performance Characteristics
Heat Resistance: Deposits retain useful hardness at service temperatures up to approximately 600–800 °C depending on grade.
Wear & Galling Resistance: Chromium carbides in a cobalt-rich matrix provide resistance to sliding wear, fretting, and particle erosion.
Corrosion Resistance: High chromium content supports oxidation and mild chemical resistance; the CoCrMo (ERCoCr-E) grade offers enhanced resistance to reducing environments.
Work-Hardening Surface: Many cobalt deposits work-harden under service, improving surface durability over time.
Controlled Crack Tendency: Especially in the low-carbon CoCrMo grade (ERCoCr-E), the deposit shows comparatively lower susceptibility to heat-affected zone cracking when proper preheat and interpass temperatures are observed.
Major Application Fields
Grade
Typical Applications
ERCoCr-A
Steam / gate / ball valve seats, pump sleeves, bearing journals, turbine blade erosion shields
